Do you think we have missed a Sydney Craft Beer brewer here?
Young Henrys - Newtown NSW
Two guys meet at a bar, one with brewing knowledge, one with hospitality experience and both with a love of beer….. this is how Young Henrys was born in 2012. The concept was ‘brew beer our local community would enjoy and be proud to call it our own’. Young Henrys was forced to grow bigger within months of opening, from the public going crazy over their beer and the demand was stronger than they anticipated.
If you want to take a tour through the brewery the staff will welcome you at any time, sit at the bar and oversee the stainless steel brewing tanks and simply watch the guys in action while enjoying one of the signature brews available on tap, such as the Real Ale, which took out ‘No 1 draft beer in the country’ at the Australia Liquor Industry Awards in 2015. On weekends the bar bar is busy, music is pumping and food trucks tend to make appearances to ensure you have a meal to compliment those tasty brews. Murrays Craft Brewing Co. - Newcastle NSW (Outside of Sydney)
Ok, ok we know, Newcastle is not Sydney, we are working on it, anyway more importantly BEER! How often do you travel overseas, try a beer and say “if only I could have one like that back in Australia’ - well the owner Murray did exactly this, and that one drink was enough to inspire Murray to open his own Brewing Company. After purchasing a pub on the NSW North Coast and setting up a microbrewery to help with the supply problem, Murrays Brewing quickly outgrew the pub and relocated to Bobs Farm, Port Stephens, where it now shares a home with the regions oldest vineyard.
Murrays definitely uphold their motto of ’no boring beer’ with their unique and off-beat brews, try their Pumpkin Ale, Sea Monster Seaweed Beer or Coffee Imperial Stout. Theres plenty of choose from with 10 available on tap at any one time, a definite winner is their ’Thunderbolt IPA’ which recently won Champion IPA at the 2016 Craft Beer Industry Awards in Brisbane, or one of the favourite beers from the team at Best Bars In is Murray's Angry Man. So gather the troops for a family friendly day out, enjoy a game of bocce, listen to the live music, enjoy a meal from the restaurant, all whilst holding a ‘Murrays Craft Beer’ in your hand. Wayward Brewing Co. - Annadale NSW
Starting off as a ‘Gypsy Brewer’, Wayward Brewing found its way and has been operating since 2015 in Camperdown. Wayward stated they are the ethos of travellers, “the desire to see what’s around the corner, to take the road (and beer) less travelled, and to embrace whatever you find”. This is the philosophy they live by, not afraid to try something different! Wayward Brewing produces all preservative free, natural brews which are unpasteurised and unfiltered. Their ingredients are sourced from all over the world to get that special flavour, ensuring the end result is one you will all enjoy.
The Cellar Bar is the place to sample their selection which is available on tap and in bottles fresh from the brewery upstairs. The space is tucked down a quiet lane way that was once part of a winery, with the wax lined wine vats now amazingly converted into rooms and tastefully decorated with vintage furnishings. Bring the friends along and experience the "Wayward Way" - we can guarantee you haven’t experienced anything like this before." Wayward Brewing website >>
Modus Operandi Brewing - Mona Vale NSW
With a ‘beer first, no shortcuts’ approach, no wonder why Modus Operandi Brewing collected 4 out of 11 awards in the‘2014 Craft Beer Industry awards’ only 3 months after opening their doors, and most recently winning ‘Best International Pale Ale’ in the 2016 Australian International Beer Awards, which deserves a huge high five!
Using the motto “fresh is best”, Modus Operandi only use the freshest quality ingredients for their brews. Live yeast is transported from the USA, with quality malt and hops being sourced around the world. You are in luck if you can find a warm beer at the brewery. Modus Operandi keep all of their brews permanently cold which means they do not need to contain preservatives and results in delivering the freshest craft beer to consumers. Modus Operandi has created a fun friendly environment where you can meet up with friends, enjoy the 12 craft beers on tap, listen to the live music and also indulge some tasty handcrafted food. Batch Brewing Co - Marrickville NSW
The magic happens when you step behind the roller doors of Batch Brewing Co, you simply won’t know what beer to expect, as the beers are regularly rotated with a minimum of 6 available on tap. However commonly talked about is ‘Elsie the Milk Stout’, a beer that is sweet, smooth, dark and toasty, with touches of chocolate, cream and coffee. Im sure it sounds like something you have never dreamt of before and we can assure you it's well worth the try. If you don’t want to sit down and have a beer though, takeaway growlers and bombers are also available.
The old panel workshop has been transformed into a Brewery with a relaxed and trendy vibe, dark walls with abandoned crates as tables, low lying stools, old leather couches and beers served in jars. I think you will agree that in todays society we all like to know where our purchases are coming from, and the Batch Brewing team don’t hide it with their machinery being visible to the public. Pull up a seat, grab a beer and watch the Batch Brewing team in action. Website >>
The Apple Thief - Batlow NSW
If you’ve been a winner of 'best in class' at the ‘Australian Cider Awards 2014’, then you know what your doing, and David Purcell from The Apple Thief sure does! So why the name you say? Well this clever name simply came from those cheeky little birds that who quite often successfully thieve the best fruit from the tops of the trees.
David originally started out with a Pink Lady cider, however with so much interest from friends, family and the local community, he soon out grew the families fruit supply, therefor started sourcing quality fruit from local orchards to help support local growers.
This lovely range of all natural fruit ciders are created by Batlow's finest, locally produced fruit juice, just a stones throw from the base of the Snowy Mountains. With three quality ciders to choose, our favourite cider (by a close vote) is the sweet Pink Lady Cider but you must try the William Pear and Granny Smith Ciders too, and tell us your pick!
