Walking down Gilbert Place in Adelaide looking for this hidden treasure, and there it was, tucked away off the main city streets. Hains & Co is definitely no secret to the buzzing bar scene of Adelaide, being named South Australia’s Bar of the Year in both 2015 & 2016.
From the moment you walk through the door you feel like you’ve set sail on a 1940’s ship, furnished with old style booths, chesterfield lounges and wooden ceiling features. Beers are served in nautical sizes (dingy, tanker and small ship), the bottled beers also hold nautical names we all know like “Pirate Life, Smoothbeard and Lord Nelson Old Admiral”, and for the real pirates you will love the selection of cigars and tobacco available.
Hains & Co specialise in Gin & Rum, with an impressive selection, but if you don’t know where to start the Bartenders will point you in the right direction, simply tell them if you like sweet, or snappy and they will scout out just the one to put a smile on your dial! If your feeling a bit peckish, there is a satisfying “Grub” menu with a variety of cheese and meat dishes that go down a treat.
The team at Hains & Co are definitely “Lifting Spirits” in Adelaide, with passionate and knowledgeable staff always happy to chat. This is one of the best bars in Adelaide we will making a trip back to in the near future, the only thing we think it’s missing… is real life pirates, but then again they could be there hiding! Its not everyday you hear about underground bars, or better still get to experience them. Fortunately Adelaide has their very own to rave about, Bank Street Social.
Buzzing as one of the hottest craft bars in Adelaide and named in ‘The Advertiser’ as Best Small Bar of the year in 2015, Bank Street Social will be far from what you imagined. The long spacious underground bunker has a welcoming feel, the rustic brick walls, timber beams, leather booths and dimmed lighting will make you feel so at home you won’t want to leave.

Calling all beer geeks and whisky enthusiasts….. This new orleans inspired dining bar will rope you in and keep you coming back for more! NOLA, short for ‘New Orleans Louisiana’ popped onto the Adelaide Bar scene in December 2015 and has since been winning the heart of the locals.
Its not often you step into a bar and have a complete new lineup of beers available to you, and the team at NOLA have made this happen! With no lockdown tap contracts they rotate their beers as freely as they wish, and with 16 taps available they are always pouring the hottest releases from independent craft brewers across Australia.
