Hells Kitchen - Melbourne CBD

Have you ever wanted to sit with a cocktail or beer in your hand and watch the world go by?  If this has always been something to do on your bucket list then look no further, we have found just that place for you!

Hells Kitchen is elevated above one of Melbourne's busiest lane ways ‘Centre Place’, if you are not looking for it, we guarantee you will walk right past it, which makes it all that more exciting.  Look for the sign that says ‘Hells’ above a single door, venture up the stairs, past the kegs to find this cosy and quirky little treat.

By day Hells Kitchen is the ideal location to meet friends for a relaxed lunch away from the hustle and bustle of the lunch rush, with a classic lunch menu, pull a seat up at the window, relax, chat, and gaze at the lane way in full swing.

In the evening the lights dim, music pumps and Hells Kitchen becomes part of the great Melbourne Nightlife, with its great craft beer and cocktails,  along with food just to die for (we recommend the cheese platter to get started).  The drinks list is extensive and the friendly bar staff know how to make a good cocktail, if you need a night cap you can’t go past their Espresso Martini.. definitely hits the spot.

Hells Kitchen was a true hidden gem that we didn’t expect, we will be adding it onto our own personal list as one of the Best Bars in Melbourne, and visiting it again in May 2017.  See their website here >> Hells Kitchen

The Drunken Poet - Melbourne CBD

This is an Irish bar like no other. The ‘Poet’, as it is known to those who have sipped its Guinness and stamped their feet on the floorboards to local music is the real deal amongst Irish bars. Most Irish pubs outside Ireland have an O’-something-or-other and the problem with many of them: there’s usually something dubious, something un-Irish about them.

But what is it that differentiates an authentic experience from a gimmicky “pub-in-a-box,” A traditional pub where you’ll get a true taste of Irish beer, music and people. The food is simple toasted sandwiches, pickled eggs and bags of Taytos, Ireland’s finest crisps.

Escape from monitors streaming news, music, sport, lotto, racing and game machines to name a few of what seems to be taken as the norm. Soak in the atmosphere of real Irish craic – good live music, great staff service, great chat and of all the best Guinness and Kilkenny on tap you will find.

Musicians sit in a corner booth or table, alongside the rest of us. They are part of the crowd as much as they are what the crowd have come to enjoy. The Drunken Poet has right mix of ingredients that make Irish drinking culture so appealing.

A real Irish pub as one would expect knows a true Guinness poured to perfection, and we seem to have stumbled across a true Irish bar with great staff and rustic atmosphere, that is a must on your best bars in Melbourne bucket list. It is simply fun (craic).

This is a regular highlight for our ‘bestbarsin’ team when in Melbourne – join us for a jar....or two..
